THE HILL WE CLIMB
PROJECT BRIEF
Students were tasked to create 6-8 style-frames that featured one of three literature pieces that was shown in class. We had to pick a stanza, and include all of the words written somewhere on our pieces. The piece I chose was "The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman. A poem emphasizing a desperate call for Unity, Freedom, and Equality. A statement that America is not yet broken, we just have to continue to build it up in order to create a better future.
This call for action reminded me of a newspaper, and how CTA's would be displayed on them. The poem also reminds me of how society is slowly regressing, and I wanted to play with that idea by using constitution, however, I also wanted to add a modern aspect to it. I made Amanda's words to have a fleeting aspect to them, as if she is defying the rules / what is initially written. I also played with the idea of annotating papers to symbolize change.
